Using CPA for Lesson Design

This workshop provides teachers with an understanding of using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract approach to lesson design. It will show the progression from concrete to abstract, with appropriate links to develop understanding of concepts and processes for primary school pupils. Examples will be taken from whole numbers, fractions and geometry.

Topics include

  • TheĀ theoretical basis of the CPA approach
  • What constitutes C and P aspects of a concept/process in mathematics
  • Designing a unit of lessons based on the CPA approach (Participants to work on different topics in small groups)
