Pento is a polygon made up of 5 squares of the same size, connected edge-to-edge. There are 12 different pentominoes. Named as s, t, u, v, w, x,y, z, f, l, i, p for easy reference. As each pentomino is made up of 5 clearly marked out units, PentoMagic is a good resource for the teaching of area and perimeter. Children can also see how different shapes can have the same area, but different perimeters.

#### Pento Junior

• Comes with 20 game cards, printed to scale such that the pentominoes sit perfectly on them
• Players put two matching cards together and use 2 different pentominoes to form the given shape
• Multiple answers for each shape
• Train children’s visualisation skills
• Visualise complex shapes, which are common in upper primary mathematics

#### Double Pento

• 12 game cards
• Players form the shapes using 2 pentominoes
• Multiple answers for each shape
• Shapes are not printed to scale – Encourages a greater level of visualisation
• Moving from concrete to abstract modes, advanced players will name the pentominoes required to form the shape without using the concrete pieces
